The Mechanicsville Reunion, sponsored by The Rights 2 Life Foundation Inc. and Citizens of Mechanicsville Coalition, is a celebration of community unity where old and new neighbors and friends get together to enjoy a fun-filled day in Rosa Burney Park after experiencing an invigorating walk 2 health campaign. Each each year since 1989 on the Second Saturday of August, with the exception of the past 5 years the last Festival was held in 2009. We hope to bring back this tradition for the communities cultural heritage. The event begins with a parade through the neighborhood by residents, various organizations and elected officials, accompanied by the band from one of the two high schools serving the Mechanicsville neighborhood. This year a walk-2-health 2k walk-a-thon will precede the parade to promote health amongst the residents who suffer from obesity and cardiovascular disease. The parade and walk-a-thon ends in Rosa Burney Park where the coalition and its partners have setup various recreational and cultural activity displays.
